Dates and sources
Initial release and public introduction dates refer to the linked event. Where these are unknown, first commit dates link to a verified root commit in the public default-branch history. Backdated non-root commits are excluded; private or omitted history is not covered. Forks use their own GitHub creation date, labelled forked, instead of inherited upstream commits. Projects without public GitHub history may show a reported month/year from Discussion #146. Reviewed dates take precedence for ordering. The counter uses exact days, with fork creation dates or verified public root commits as the fallback when no reviewed date is known. Year/month-only dates and routine updates do not reset the counter; known years are displayed without inventing a month or day. This is a curated list, not a complete census.
Reddit links may be introductions or later discussions. Removed posts are kept when surviving public comments identify the project; they do not establish a launch date. Unavailable content and deleted accounts are not reconstructed.
Each editor has one category: Local takes precedence when a local editor is available, including on-device browser editors, even if server deployment is also supported. Selfhosted means a server-deployed web editor. SaaS means a vendor-operated hosted service, with free or subscription plans; a static browser-editor demo alone is not SaaS.
Red unmaintained labels replace the category when there is no commit on the default branch or a reviewed development branch in the last three calendar months. Unknown or failed lookups are not classified. This activity rule does not establish that a project has been abandoned.
Star and fork counts refresh daily through GitHub Actions. An asterisk marks an older retained value after a failed lookup. Snapshot: 2026-11-08T08:59:22+00:00. Editor data · Reddit sources · GitHub snapshot
